The project brief for this bookworks project was to create a 40 page book using the front page of a newspaper as the source for images and text.

This uses the front page of issue number 1935 of the Socialist Worker. Every word and image is used somewhere in the book. The book is hand-made and the front cover and the pages with the swords are screen-printed

‘Nightgown’ – a chill-out lounge

At the end of the Foundation Course Art & Design, a major project had to be prepared. As a project I set myself the Concept for a chill-out lounge and therefore the area of interior design and 3D branding.

A major focus was put on the lighting design, as well as the design of some custom elements like the ‘light bubbles’. The visualization was done completely in Cinema 4D.

But the project also included the design of a coorporate identity, including a small website to present the project. This was accomplished using (the now sadly discontinued) Freehand MX, Photoshop, Fireworks and Dreamweaver.

The Virtual Riverfront

For the exhibition at The Riverfront, Newport, for the international art project ‘Ghosts in Armour’ (www.ghostsinarmour.com) a virtual gallery and interface was needed for visitors bound to a wheelchair, as wheel-chair access to part of the gallery was not possible, as well as a method of viewing the exhibition via internet.

For the exhibition an interface was created that ran on a computer with a 19” touchscreen monitor, mounted on an arm that was freely adjustable in forward/backward tilt, height and forward shift. A map with selection hot spots could be clicked to bring up 360º views at various points in the gallery, which could be freely navigated in using dragging in the viewer using the touchscreen as well as zooming in/out.
The output was projected on a 3m x 2m screen a distance away forward of the computer terminal, to enable other visitors to see the users exploration.

The terminal proved great success and got great feedback from the pupils and carers of the National Star College – an organisation that for more then 40 years has “helped young disabled people discover their potential and prepare for the best that adult life can offer”.

BT Connect – 3D models

London-based Web Videos needed some simple 3D renders of a Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and a Playstation 3 for tutrial videos for their client BT Connect.

The models were provided and the lighting was setup using a HDR Image of a studio setup in Cinema 4D. That way the lighting could be as realistic as possible. Materials were assigned and the renders are produced using the Advanced Renderer.

Some additional editing needed to be done to some of the frames in Photoshop.

Boardworks

‘Boardworks’ is a fictional company making modular skateboard graphics. This was the final project for the BA (Hons) in Graphic Design.

There were 4 different sets of graphics, which are printed on vinyl sticker and can be arranged in many different ways on the blank skateboard. At the final exhibition 6 white skateboards were attached to the wall in the shape making up the logo for ‘Boardworks’ and had the animated graphics projected onto 4 of the boards.

The design included the logo, graphics, stationary and a website interface.

Ghosts in Armour Website

This is Version 2 of the website for the international art project ‘Ghosts in Armour’. It is an ongoing project which will continue to grow both in functionality and content. Version 2 is now using the amazing Wordpress platform and all Artists can contribute and manage their own profiles.

Janire Najera Website
